Integrated Photonic Chip Design
The Challenge
Designing a next-generation integrated circuit that condenses distinct physical domains—optics, electronics, and microfluidics—onto a single, compact footprint. The primary difficulty was balancing these systems without introducing cross-domain interference or compromising the overall performance of the chip.
Our Solution
Contributed to the core architectural design of this multi-domain chip, as well as the highly specialized packaging required to house it safely. Integrating photonic waveguides, microfluidic channels, and microelectronic actuators in such close proximity demanded strict thermal management and precise optical alignment. To handle this, we mapped out potential signal degradation and cross-talk through extensive modeling prior to fabrication. This level of precision ensured that the final semiconductor architecture maintained excellent signal integrity, allowing the different subsystems to process and route data reliably across the entire device.
